Apron 023
Apron 023
An apron sewn using white machine-made fabric (double width, cut crosswise), gathered at the waist, decorated using whitework broderie anglaise. Apron edges feature an extremely interesting finish - a knitted scalloped edge motif, often seen in architecture and wood carving. Meticulous and precise embroidery, arranged in strips with an abundance of flowers, grape vines and ears arranged into bouquets. The embroidery is thick and meaty, the leaves and some flowers are filled with toledo drawn like threadwork. Admiring this embroidery, one should bear in mind that country girls attended a school run by Zofia Urbańska, Haczów estate owner and Lucyna née Urbańska Hallerowa, her daughter, where embroidery was one of the taught subjects.
