Apron 021

Apron 021

This apron (zapaska) is a part of a lady’s attire, worn over a skirt and tied off at the back of the waist. Sewn from one piece of fabric, gathered at the top and sewn into an embroidered trim extending out as fastening straps.

The sides and the bottom of the apron feature scalloped embroidered edges. A broderie anglaise wavy line runs parallel to the bottom and side edges. Almost the entire surface of the apron is covered by large stylized rose flowers of various sizes made using the broderie anglaise (cutwork) technique. Some flowers are shown as cross-sections, others as whole flowers. Flower centres feature drawn thread-work. Each flower sits on a flat-embroidered stem with adjacent tear-shaped leaves, some flat-embroidered some made using broderie anglaise. Floss was used for the entire embroidery.
