Apron 019

Apron 019

Zapaska – a decorated apron, part of a lady's formal dress, a cultural aspect of the Lasovian Kolbusz-Raniżów subregion. Handmade out of two pieces of homespun cotton fabric. The stitch joining the two pieces together runs vertically through the centre of the apron. Gathered at the waist, with an embroidered trim extending out as fastening straps. The vertical edges are not trimmed as they feature a workshop linen finish. The bottom edge is scalloped and trimmed using white thread. Each scallop shape features a pattern comprising round eyelets with white thread-knitted trim. Above there are two overlaps sawn into a white decorative lockstitch. This is followed by a regular wavy line made out of white knit-trimmed cutwork eyelets with multi-petal flowers in each curve of the line. The flowers feature broderie anglaise pistils and white thread flat-embroidered petals. Above there is an analogous wavy line pattern formed out of eyelets with white thread knitted trim. Each curve of the line is home to a multi-petal flower. Broderie anglaise was used to embroider both the flowers as well as the petals. Two decorative overlaps run above that pattern.
