Apron 018

Apron 018

Fragment of a zapaska – a decorated apron, part of a lady's formal dress, a cultural aspect of the Lasovian Kolbusz-Raniżów subregion. This white cotton apron features cutwork embroidery. There are eight scallop shapes along the bottom section of the fragment, with three stylised grape bunches on each shape with cutwork grapes and white thread embroidered vines. The apron is significantly gathered at the waist. The apron linen displays a once-repeated floral motif. It features a central eight-petal flower with five stalks with leaves scattered around it. Above the central flower, there is a smaller, seven-petal flower and its mirror image with a composition of five stalks with leaves between the smaller flowers. The stalks have been embroidered using white thread. A cutwork technique was used for the leaves.
