Headcloth 004

Headcloth 004

The headcloth is made of very thin cambric. The main part of the geometric pattern was usually made of black thread and placed in the middle of the longer edge (so that it framed the face when worn). The pattern presented here is placed on the narrower edge so that it was visible at the bottom when worn. The red cotton embroidery with a stitch called satin is geometric and simple. It shows a line from which triple twigs diverge at the top and at the bottom alternately. There is always a little star placed on the other side.

A headcloth is a rectangular piece of a fabric thrown over the head, shoulders or back, depending on the region, by married women; both its ends falling to the shoulders and sides, nearly reaching the knees. They were longest preserved in the Łańcut garment, worn on the head and shoulders at a time when they were no longer in fashion among the rest of the Rzeszów region inhabitants.
