Fitting 006

Fitting 006

A decorative cart drawbar fitting, hand forged, made by a blacksmith. Served as a reinforcing element at the coupling between the drawbar and a-frame hitch (wooden element in the shape of an elongated triangle with a slot for a drawbar).
The fitting is in the shape of a ring, with a round front face, convex at the centre and features a stamped decorative pattern (made using stamps of various shapes also useful for stamping initials and dates).
A row of zig-zag arch shapes facing the centre runs around the edges. The centre features a motif showing a circle and 4 adjacent leaves in the shape of a cross. Outside of that motif along diagonals, there are 4 conical flowers.
