Shirt 014

Shirt 014

A shirt, part of a lady’s formal dress, originating from Markowa. Machine sewn out of white linen fabric. Made out of square and rectangular pieces of fabric. The sleeves are sewn out of rectangular pieces, slightly gathered at the waist with square inserts under the armpits. The shirt features a 2/3 length popover placket on the front trimmed with a white strip. Half-way down the placket there is a button with four holes and a buttonhole on the other side.

Ornamental cuffs made out of double-folded fabric are sewn into the sleeve trims. Their edges are embroidered in white thread and decorated using cutout broderie anglaise – two rows of eyelets parallel to the cuff edge. Above this motif, there are repeated flower shapes with broderie anglaise pistils and oval broderie anglaise leaf cutouts.
The shirt features an ornamental collar. The edges are embroidered in white thread and decorated using cutout broderie anglaise – three rows of eyelets parallel to the collar edge. The collar leaf features a floral motif – a repeated arrangement of four multi-petal flowers and a cutout broderie anglaise rhombus. The first flower has a pistil in the form of a cutout surrounded by white thread flat-embroidered spots and round broderie anglaise petals. The second type of flower is a flower with a broderie anglaise pistil and oval broderie anglaise leaf cutouts. The third type of flower is a flower with a broderie anglaise pistil and round broderie anglaise leaf cutouts. The fourth comprises small white thread flat-embroidered flowers.

The yokes are made out of a thinner embroidered fabric. Scalloped yoke edges feature a row of broderie anglaise eyelets. There is also a floral motif above the scallop shapes - multi-leaf white thread embroidered branches and rhomboidal arrangements of four eyelets.
