Headscarf 002

Headscarf 002

The headscarf is made of two-colour, white and red linen, woven by the weaver Nosek from Markowa (Rzeszowiacy, Łańcut subregion). The woven pattern is arranged in the form of a lattice with red lines delineating white square-shaped fields, the edges are framed with repeated parallel red lines, woven at a short distance from each other. The edges are densely trimmed with red thread. Corners topped with red decorative fringes in the form of a brush.
Patterns are embroidered in red on two opposite corners, in white fields. On one of them, there is a stylized flower - a snowflake, arranged in the shape of a fancy rosette. On the other side, also in the corner lattice, a stylized plant motif embroidered with red and white thread: a vertical twig with two diagonally symmetrically arranged branches, with leaves arranged symmetrically on both sides on the twig and its branches. The entire motif is placed on a single flower petal.
The red colour of embroidery was used by brides and young married women. On the headscarf, it gained an additional meaning: it emphasized the innocence of the bride who entered into a marriage. Embroidery motifs have a symbolic meaning: a snowflake in the form of a rosette is a solar symbol, and a floral motif is a clear reference to the tree of life theme.
