Apron 004

Apron 004

The pattern is embroidered with blue and red embroidery thread on the apron (made of cotton cloth) with a knitted stitch, straight and oblique satin, a string and a roller. The bottom is cut in serrations, finished with a knitted embroidery (one serration with blue thread, one with red thread). A strip of dots runs along the serrations (in a serration hemmed with a blue thread the dots are red, in a serration hemmed with red thread – blue ones). The main pattern consists of grain ears, bunches of grapes, cornflowers and chamomile. Red and blue threads are used alternately: if the center of the cornflower is red, then the petals are blue, and vice versa. The chamomiles have alternating blue and red petals. If the middle grape ball is red, the rest are blue, and vice versa.

Similar decorative motifs were embroidered on various elements of the outfit with white thread. Blue and red embroidery only appeared at the end of the 19th century.
