Headcloth 007

Headcloth 007

Headcloth is a piece of bleached linen in the shape of a rectangle. It is made of 4 sheets of linen, perhaps it was a skirt, from which the trimming was cut off and the edge was wrapped and sewn on. One of the longer edges and the shorter ones are lined with a strip and decorated with a wavy line embroidered with a chain stitch. Along the long edge of headcloth, above the wavy line, there is a strip ornament: a row of interconnected small diamonds placed between two ornate embroidered edges arranged antithetically to each other. Each edge consists of a line sewn with a string (from the inside), and the outer edge of the ornament is a row of small serrations made with full flat embroidery.
The embroidery pattern is a variation of one of the most archaic motifs characteristic of the inhabitants of the former Sandomierz Forest, just like the embroidery stitches used. The diamonds refer to the spiral motif, and the serrations are a straightforward reference to the popular "wolf's teeth" motif.
Headcloth is a parade part of a married woman's clothing attire. It was put on a married woman's head, on a headscarf.
