Headcloth 001
Headcloth 001
This fragment of the headcloth is the embroidery belt cut off from it. On a strip of bleached linen, a horizontal stripe pattern made of linen black thread, composed of multiple zig-zag lines separated by ladders sewn with a chain stitch and an S-shaped double snail roll placed between them. It is one of the most archaic embroidery patterns, typical of the Tarnobrzeg area, as are the embroidery stitches used. A headcloth is a part of a women's clothing set. It was put on a married woman's head, on a headscarf. The black color suggested a married woman in the prime of her life, who had given birth to children. Also known as a wimple.
