Tombstone 002

Tombstone 002

The tombstone is located in the so-called small cemetery that is part of the Orthodox Church Complex in Radruż (a branch of the Museum of the Eastern Borderland in Lubaczów). A three-part tombstone, consisting of a wider plinth, pedestal and a cross on the top. A two-step pedestal with engraved epitaphic inscriptions. A cross with three-leaf arms. At the intersection of the arms, there is a relief of Christ Crucified. At the base of the cross, there are two figures of Mary. There is a star motif on the top of the vertical arm of the cross.

An eight-pointed star composed of narrow and longitudinal rays extending from a central circular point. Small circular indentations between the ends of the rays.
The representation of the star is one of the most popular decorative motifs used in the Brusno stonework centre at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The star, in addition to its decorative aspect, refers to the revelation of Christ and, through the symbolism of the cross, connects with the idea of redemption and eternal life.
