Corset 003

Corset 003

The corset is made of black velvet, lined with linen embroidered with white beads and gold sequins. The decorative motif on the woman's chest is arranged in two symmetrical, stylized flower bouquets and grains. Similar, smaller motifs appear on the straps. The back of the corset is decorated with a symmetrical pattern, in the centre of which there is a flower with five petals, from which branches with leaves and ears of corn extend. The bottom of the corset is finished with small trays (each has a small leaf made of beads, with a sequin sewn inside), and the edges with serrations (decorated with sequins and beads arranged in a zigzag).
In the 20th century, in the vicinity of Rzeszów, corsets were most often embroidered with glass beads and sequins. Plant patterns prevailed. Initially, the motifs were delicate. Monochrome compositions dominated: white, silver or gold, which looked well against the background of black or navy-blue velvet (that was most often used for making corsets).
